Haus of Mirror Gem invites viewers into its dream world using the mirror clad sculpture as its central portkey. It asks viewers to believe in magic as it searches/reveals the magic from within each person and location. The sculpture becomes the medium of the unseen as it absorbs energy from each location and fellow creative collaborators… both living and departed.

The Wishing Well structure was created to get users to dive into psyche and ask… If you found yourself in this magical place, feeling this magical energy. What would you wish for?

In a world full of chaos, war and darkness. We can forget to dream, it can feel impossible to imagine an alternate reality. The Mirror Gem illuminates in the darkness, shining light on what we need to see, reminding us it’s ok to dream. It’s the artists, musicians, poets, actors, directors that heal our world, it’s their dreaming that add the magic. What would our society be if more people were able to dream… find their true calling… find their souls gifts?

Haus of Mirror Gem created by artist Matthew Van Dyk.

Matthew began creating the gem sculptures in 2023 after photography experiments using fragments of mirror in different environments. The Mirror began to appear as if it were a gateway to something. This revelation combined with some newly developed carpentry skills, began the shape shifting period. Matthew experimented creating a variety of shapes such as cubes, diamonds, octahedrons to wings, swords and boots. The creation process was just the beginning. The next level was how these pieces appeared photographed in different environments. Appearing otherworldly, almost extra terrestrial. Then add the light, smoke, water or another person… the results began to astound the artist. It was like a visual form of chemistry. The sensation felt from collaborating with another person or seeing the Mirror Gem reveal a new angle or magical element felt like a high not experienced before. Matthew was hooked on Mirror Gems.  He also began travelling North America photographing the gems in iconic locations such as Marfa & New York to The Rockies & Joshua Tree National Park.
